Judith slumped on her bed like a log of wood, she was so
tired that getting out of her clothes was a big chore.
"Lazy girl, get up... I know you are tired but you
should at least eat dinner." Ruth tugged at her leg ridding her leg of the
shoe.
"You may as well finish the job and remove the other
shoe, I just want to sleep." Judith said turning over on the bed.
" Well I won't let you waste my energy, you should get
up while am being nice, you know you would n... Okay! I will get up." She
said in a defeated tone, she knew Ruth would pull her out of the bed and she
had no strength for that now.
"I think I will say it since you are not eager to
know." Ruth said.
"Say what?"
"I knew you would forget that I mentioned on phone that
I have good news for you."
Judith rolled her eyes as she dug into the rice, she never
knew she was hungry till she saw the enticing rice and plantain with beef, her
mouth was watery as she partially listened.
"Alright, I am all ears." She said non chalantly.
" I know you mentioned not being ready and all that but
girl I could not resist when I noticed that my neighbor was packing and moving
to another part to establish his business so I kind of em...I kind of gave part
payment for the rent so you could start your cake business, girl another person
would have taken it but I used my influence so the landlord agreed and..."
"OMG Ruth! I have enough on my hands already, actually
I am getting crazy from the madness happening in the office. Today was a very
long and tiring day, I was threatened and pushed to my last wit. Micheal
thought I was delusional when I told him the truth, well he did not say it but
his eyes spoke volume. Ruth I was disappointed and now I know I should be
elated by the news but I am just so tired and..." She broke down into
fresh sobs and Ruth rushed to her side.
"Common girl, you are stronger than you give yourself
credit for. Will you die trying to build another man's work and abandon your
own dreams. I know this time is rough but then we just need to come up with a
plan. Let's get your business running, you have week ends and since am close, I
will supervise the work. Just stop crying okay."
Judith wiped her face with the back of her hand. "I am
sorry I reacted that way, I appreciate what you did and remind me to pay you
back tomorrow... I just wish Tom was more understanding." She had said it
and it was too late to reverse her words.
"What did that guy do again? I know you love him and
all but I can't bring myself to accepting him even after all these while. You
know I have been imagining you and Micheal, I think you guys will make a good
couple." She said with a stupid grin on her face.
" In your dreams. I don't want anything to do with
someone who thinks I am lying to him, what will I gain by spoiling people's
reputable huh! He claims to want friendship but no, he is the boss so that will
be called trespassing. I have had enough trouble okay so stop that stupid
imagination. " She snapped and walked away to the room angrily. She
expected Ruth to be remorse instead she laughed heartily claiming its all a
matter of time.
******†******"†*********†
Michael had lost his appetite and was fumbling with his
food. He could not get his mind off what she had told him, he thought he could
handle it but then it was impossible, that man is loyal to his father or so he
thought, well that did not bother him as much as seeing her cry did. He felt like
an idiot standing there and watching her cry, he wanted to embrace her and
comfort her and tell her everything will be fine but that will not be
professional, he wish they had met under separate circumstances. He needed to
focus and try to investigate the issue but two weeks later, just when he had
started to trust her theory, a meeting was held.
She was seated looking all gorgeous in her skirt and long
sleeve shirt that was neatly tucked in. He loved her dress sense and well it
was unfortunate that she was engaged and not interested in him but though he
was busy checking her out, what he heard next was a shocker.
"Chair man sir, I am sorry to say that Miss Judith has
been having some illicit activities outside the company, I warned her to stop
but this is the peak of it. I received a call from the manager saying he had
been called to transfer #500 000 into her account and the order has been met,
he only called to say it has been done and...Enough! I don't want to hear
anymore."
Micheal was mad, how could she have fooled him. So she was
the thief and pretended to be the saint. He thought she was a good Christian
lady who has integrity. He flashed her a death glare, he wondered why she
looked surprised as if she was innocent but no! He won't be deceived. He really
wish this was a lie, he wanted her name to be cleared. He looked at everyone
who were waiting for him to act and his gazed landed on her.
"Judith! Why did you do it?"
She knew she was in trouble, he had done it again. Jumping
to conclusions. A tear slid down her cheek as she looked at the chief
accountant who had a look of triumph in his heart. Will she be able to forgive
these men? Its so difficult to be a good Christian because its hard to obey a
times but she knew in her head that the big guy up in the guy was the Boss,
will he save her or leave her to face the shame of what she never did?
